Hand knotted in the village of Tafrish, which is located in western Persia in the Hamadan region. Tafrish rugs are recognizable by their medallions, which resemble a clock-face (albeit with sixteen segments, not twelve). Some believe that the medallion represents the sun with radiating sunbeams as a symbol of the Zoroastrian (Parsee) religion. Antique Tafrish rugs have one of the finest weaves of the Hamadan area.
